Armenian opposition candidate slams peace accord as 'crippling document'

Opposition leader Edmon Marukyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the Bright Armenia Party, denounced the government’s pre-signed peace agreement with Azerbaijan, branding it a “document that would cripple Armenia.”

Speaking on the campaign trail ahead of the June 7 parliamentary elections, Marukyan insisted his party would not endorse the accord in its current form. “We are against it. It must be changed and it will be changed,” he said.

Marukyan also challenged assertions made by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a recent televised debate. Mirzoyan had claimed the peace text was drafted collaboratively, but Marukyan countered that the final version contained only Azerbaijani proposals. “The text we worked on does not exist. What they signed includes every article proposed by Azerbaijan,” he argued, adding that his party intends to hold accountable those who approved it.
